Elf Wall Decoration

Growing up in a crafty family Todd draws on a fun childhood memory to design his first Winter Make Off challenge project. A felt pair of Santa’s trousers were hung on his door every year at Christmas with his name “glitter glued” on it. Old school for sure, so lets take that up a notch… a pair of elf’s trousers with a belt loaded with Christmas treats. Todd’s Mom would be proud.

Starting from a hand drawn sketch, and making use of the layers to keep track of the stacking of all the parts this project looks complicated but you will be surprised how fast it comes together. Making it fit in the desktops 24” x 24” working area was a challenge, but this was over come by designing in a tab to attach the legs to the elf’s body.

Part of the Winter Make Off challenge rules meant it needed to use Vcarve Desktop and have a hand painted element, and for the “finish” challenged out there like Todd, this is a great project. Painting the parts first, then stacking and gluing them, makes you look like a pro!

This is a 2 tool cut, so all you need is a 60 degree v-bit, and a 1/8” end mill. We nearly forgot to mention why you need a v-bit… that’s used for the chamfer toolpath Todd uses to add a bit of 2.5D to the project!

This project is perfect for customizing so make it your own! VCarve a name just above the belt so it can be used as a bedroom door sign, and load the belt loops with festive treats. Maybe even have it on hand when the grand kids visit, creating a very special memory of arriving for a visit and sneaking a candy cane off the cheeky elf’s belt! WOW… fun for everyone!
